What Causes Anxiety Attacks
Post traumatic stress disorder is an anxiety disorder that happens to people who go through something that traumatizes them, or when they have a near-death experience that won't leave them. Often people with PTSD have nightmares about what happened and can't stop thinking and worrying about it.

devastating natural disasters such as tsunamis and hurricanes, disasters that were inflicted by humans such as brutal terrorist attacks, or experience in especially dangerous military combat. In the past, it has been very common to see veterans from war who are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.


Another very common form of anxiety is obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD. People with obsessive compulsive disorder usually feel like they can't control certain thoughts and actions, usually becoming obsessed with them.


What would be a pet-peeve for someone else, controls their thoughts night and day. Whether it be an image in their head or the need to repeatedly do something, having OCD makes this the main focus of their day.

The unfortunate part about obsessive compulsive disorder is that it is essentially caused by brain malfunction. Many people have become skeptical and believe that it may be caused environmentally, such as by family upbringing. However, this is not true.


Numerous studies have shown that the striatum part of the brain works differently than it does in people without mental problems. This being said, the good part is that there are now treatment options (medicine and behavior therapy) that can change the striatum to function properly.


If you think you have post traumatic stress disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder, talk to your doctor. Ask them what causes anxiety attacks and see if their answer matches up with your feelings. This will help you find the right treatment.
