Whether you got it from clearing brush or your kids ran into it while playing outside, it's probably not something you want to go to the doctor for. This can be quite expensive,and unnecessary if it is only a small area that is affected.
The first thing you should do if you got into a patch is put an epsom salt compress on it. This will help to bring out the oil from the plant that causes irritation. If possible, do this within five minutes of touching the plant!
Poison ivy remedies such as steroids creams are also a good idea. Hydrocortisone is something you probably have in your medicine cabinet- and it works wonders on itchy skin!
