Home Remedies for Yeast Infections

These home remedies for yeast infections will help to clear up any itchy rashes quickly. Curing a yeast infection only takes a few days if you are diligent about treating it.

A yeast infection looks like red, rashy skin that may feel hot and itchy, and cause pain during urination if it is in that area.

Vaginal yeast infections are a common problem in many women at some point during their lives. A penile yeast infection is one that men experience. They are both caused by a fungus called Candida albicans that begins to proliferate within the female or male anatomy causing pain, itchiness, and a burning feeling or discharge.

Home remedies for yeast infections can often help fix the problem, but if it doesn't clear up within a week you will need to see a doctor. Here are some natural remedies you can try at home.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has proven to be extremely useful for a variety of skin issues because of its antimicrobial and anti-fungal capabilities. However, tea tree oil is very potent and strong and can easily cause dryness even on tough skin.

If you want to try this method, you must dilute the oil first. A good product to try would be a fragrance-free baby oil. Mix four parts baby oil with one part tea tree oil, and smooth over the area once or twice per day.

This should be effective in killing the Candida within a week, although incorporating a few of the following cures for a yeast infection as well will help to speed that up and make sure that it is completely eradicated.

Probiotics are often known as the "good bacteria" in your body that helps keep harmful bacteria from growing. These live microbes are naturally present in the intestines and reproductive areas.

Probiotics can be bought as a supplement and taken daily to block further growth from the Candida. You will want to look for Acidophilus. Many drugstores have them available over-the-counter; follow the dosage instructions for about a week to restore the proper balance of good bacteria.

Yogurt is also a great source of natural probiotics. You can eat the yogurt daily as well as apply some to the affected area. However, you should only use plain, non-flavored and no-sugar-added yogurt. Sugar is one of the main driving causes of yeast infections.

With many clinical studies and doctors backing up garlic's capabilities, it is surprising that so few people know of it's ability to kill yeast rather quickly.

There are a couple of ways you can use garlic as home remedies for yeast infections. The first is to take it orally. If you can stand the taste, you should eat one to two cloves of organic, fresh garlic everyday.

Begin by peeling off the white shell until only the clove is left. You will probably want to wash it down with a lot of water and then brush your teeth well!

Some people opt to drink the juice of garlic over eating it. If you'd like, try pressing two cloves to a whole garlic and drink the juice quickly. It is very strong and you will probably need to "chase" it with another drink, but garlic for a yeast infection is very effective. Be sure to do this everyday for at least a week to ensure that the infection is truly gone.

Another way you can use garlic to kill yeast is by applying it to the area. Soak one or two cloves of minced garlic in 1/8 cup olive or mineral oil for at least 30 minutes. Strain the pieces out, and then apply the fresh oil to the afflicted area twice per day for a week. Be sure to make a fresh batch of oil daily.

You can try this method during the daytime too, but it is advised you wait until you will be sleeping because you begin to taste the garlic if it is inserted in your body.

Because the tissue is already sore and burned from the infection, it may begin to itch even more when the garlic oil is placed inside, because the garlic will cause even more burning. Then, the skin tissue will replace itself. You might want to take some ibuprofen before bed to help you fall asleep.

These home remedies for yeast infections should help fix the problem within a matter of days. However, make sure you see a doctor if things get worse or simply aren't improving.
