Over pressurized ear
Because children are so prone to this type of infection, it can become too expensive and unnecessary to see the doctor each time. Be aware that there could be an underlying problem, in which they should go to the doctor, but if not can probably be treated at home. You will find some good home remedies for an ear ache below.
The first thing to know is that they usually go away on their own within a few days. However, any parent knows how difficult it can be for a child to be in pain for that long without any treatment. Here are some ear ache remedies you can try at home.
Sit Upright
Sitting up can help the Eustachian tubes become unclogged and allow drainage to occur. If your child doesn't want to sit up, have them lay down with their head propped on a cushion for several hours. (This is a good time to pop in a movie for them!)
Use Warm Air
Place your hairdryer on the low warm setting and aim it directly at the area. Be sure to hold it at least ten inches away from your head and don't burn yourself. The warm air entering the canals will help clear excess fluids and ease the pain.
Create a Compress
Place a cup or two of rice in a clean sock and heat it up until its nice and warm, but not too hot. Hold the sock against the painful area until the rice cools, then reheat it and repeat several times. The warmth will help ease the pain and, if repeated for several hours, will also promote drainage.
Swimmers Ear
If you know for certain that you have swimmers ear, this simple recipe will help almost instantly. Do not mistake simple pain for swimmers ear though, as they are quite different and require different treatments.
Mix one teaspoon vinegar with one teaspoon baby oil or mineral oil. Stir the solution well and drop a few drops into the canal tube. Move your ear around with your fingers to make sure it gets all the way in. Swimmers infection is actually a fungal infection, hence why it will heal so soon after the application of vinegar.
These home remedies for ear ache should keep the doctors visits and bills to a minimum. Make sure, though, if the problem doesn't go away to see a doctor as soon as possible.
