Ear infections are one of the most common mild illnesses that dogs contract on a regular basis, and thus home remedies for dog ear infection are needed. These infections can be caused by mites, yeast, bacteria, fungi, or a virus. If your dogs swims often, it is more likely that he will have recurring ear problems. You will notice redness in the ear, scratching and constant head shaking in a dog with an ear infection. To prevent, you should be sure to regularly use a quality dog ear cleanser.
Dog ear cleaner can be bought at any pet supply store. As a dog owner, it is especially irritating to go to the vet for such a simple problem. The cost is high and, in my experience, the cleansers and medications prescribed often don't work! A few months back I began searching for a natural solution for this exact problem. The ear infection medications we received at the vet had absolutely no effect on my golden, so I did my homework and thankfully found a couple of solutions for home remedies for a dog ear infection.
Treatment for Ear Infection in Canines
The first solution- and the one I used- was garlic. I had heard of the antimicrobial and -bacterial effects of garlic before, but it hadn't crossed my mind to try this method of treatment. Fortunately for me and my dog, it worked. You can start by using a fresh garlic bulb, natural garlic oil from a health store, or garlic capsules.
If using fresh garlic, you have two options. The first is to press it to extract the oil. The second is to mince a piece into tiny bits. Then, wrap these pieces in a sheet of tissue paper and place in your dogs ear. Ideally this compress should stay in the ear for at least a few hours. This can be difficult with pets, so a good alternative may be to use fresh oil for home remedies for dog ear infection treatment.

When using garlic oil from a bottle, it is important to make sure that you buy an organic variety that comes in a tinted bottle. Never buy garlic oil that comes in a plastic container as the oil will break down the plastic and release toxins. The glass bottle should always be tinted to prevent sunlight from breaking down its useful properties.
Dip a cotton ball in the oil of your choice and swab thoroughly in your dogs ear. If you are using capsules, cut a few open and squeeze them into the ear, then use your finger tip to swirl the oil around to cover the infected area. You don't want to directly pour a lot of garlic oil into the ear, so always swab or use only small amounts directly. This should only need to be done a few times before the problem clears up.

The best home remedies for a dog ear infection also include using tea tree oil. Tea tree is a great anti fungal, anti bacterial and antimicrobial agent. Mix five drops of tea tree oil with one cup of water. Then, use a cotton ball to swab the ear twice per day until the infection is cleared up. Prevention is very important to keeping your pet healthy, and this recipe can be used once every 7-10 day to keep the ears clean and protected from bacteria and microbes.
