Herb Garden Containers
The Best Herb Planter
Interesting herb garden containers to use in your backyard and inside the home. Container gardening herbs and plants is easy with herb container gardens and herb garden seed.
If you are thinking about starting an herb garden, you must first determine how much and what type of space you have to grow them in. If you live in a small apartment, you will be a bit more limited than someone who has land around them. Depending on the area in which you live, you may need to keep your plants indoors and out of the cold as well.
Planting An Herb Garden
There are many herb garden containers you can use to begin with. They can be as simple as an old coffee can to as fancy as an expensive trellis and planter design. Picking out your containers ahead of time will get you ready to plant your garden.

First you will need a bag of quality potting soil to fill your containers with. Potting soil is better than regular soil because it is light and airy, it is sterile, and it provides nutrients for your little seedlings to grow in. Choose a high grade brand that is specific to small plants like herbs and flowers. Next, decide if you will build or buy your containers. Here are various ideas for traditional and made-from-scratch herb garden containers.
Wheelbarrow
A wheelbarrow is a makeshift type of place to plant flowers and herbs for many people. It is, however, quite traditional as well. A vintage wheelbarrow pouring over with beautiful foliage and brightly colored flowers makes a great addition to any yard. Going this route can also be useful because the plants can later be transplanted from the wheelbarrow into house pots.

Flower Pots
The most common method of container gardening is by placing a small variety of plants into each of several pots. These can be kept indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Gardening with pots is convenient because they can easily be moved around to create different looks, and outdoor plants can be brought inside before the frost starts in. Pottery pots can be bought at most home improvement stores and are reasonably inexpensive.
Window Boxes
If you love the look and smell of beautiful plants in your kitchen windowsill, a window box may be for you. This is a rectangle shaped box that fits either in an inside windowsill, or below a window on the outside of your home. These are a great way to go if your plants need to be kept inside for the right temperature and humidity.

Bird Baths
There is nothing more beautiful than a vintage birdbath with flowers and leafy green plants growing delicately out of it. If you are looking to add class and beauty to your yard or garden, consider giving an old bird bath another chance. These can be difficult to move locations once set, but the plants can always be transplanted if necessary.

Bucket
If you don’t mind the look and would prefer something sturdy and useful, buckets of all shapes and sizes can make great herb garden containers. If you are interested in a pretty country style look, think about buying a few metal, circular water troughs from your local feed store. These large buckets filled with herbs and flowers can easily spruce things up for a nice countryside home look.
Wooden Crate
Another cute country style container you might try is a wooden crate. These are easily moved anywhere in your yard or home, and can create a pleasant look and feel to your home. Grab some paint in a light color like white, light blue, or peach and go to town giving old crates a new finish. Then, complete the project by planting your little herbs in a quality potting mix and wait for them to sprout.
