Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is what many people have when they feel worrysome, fidgety and anxious on a regular basis over anything in their lives that produces worry. It can be uncontrollable to them or can simply be something that is taking over a part of their life, depending on how severe the condition is.

There are many generalized anxiety disorder symptoms that people experience. Knowing if you fit these criteria can help you figure out if you have GAD, and then look into treatment options.
Insomnia
One of the most common symptoms is having trouble falling asleep. This signals that your brain is on hyperdrive and you are in distress. It can also be characterized by not being able to stay asleep for long once you have dozed off.
Muscle Tension
Having tense, stiff muscles and an aching back is another sign of GAD. People who constantly worry often can't make their bodies relax, and thus muscles become overstressed and tight as well.
Headaches and Tiredness
Headaches are also a very common symptom you may have. Both feeling tired constantly and having head pain show that your body is stressed out and needs true, uninterrupted rest so it can recooperate. If you feel either of these more than is normal, and you feel constantly anxious, you may have generalized anxiety disorder.
Typical Signs of Anxiety
Remember back to the day you had to give your first speech in front of the class and you were very nervous. How did you feel? Probably like your gut was wrenching, you felt somewhat nauseous, you were fidgety and had the jitters with your hands and feet.
Your palms probably started to sweat and you didn't feel very good in your chair. You may have breathed quickly with very short breaths. These are all common signs of anxiety that are not exclusive to just GAD. This is also known as communication anxiety.
Moodiness
One of the easiest ways to tell if someone is anxious is that they usually act either quieter or grumpier than usual.

A normally chatty person will stop talking and become less responsive, while there wide eyes and other body language show fear. Other people will act snappy and impatient, wanting to be left alone.
The above generalized anxiety disorder symptoms can give you a pretty good idea as to whether or not you have the condition. If you think you do, the best thing would be to talk to a professional about what you can do. However, remember that medication isn't always the best answer and you should look into other strategies of help first.
