Everyone remembers feeling sick and nervous before presenting a school project in front of the class, or giving an end-of-the year speech to your graduating class. Maybe your boss asked you to formally present your new idea to a board meeting at your workplace, and you started to feel really sweaty and nervous right beforehand.

The good news about communication anxiety is that it is not a disorder, and you are perfectly normal. The vast majority of people out there fear speaking to an audience, many even fear it more than death! The other good thing is that you can lessen the anxiety you feel and become comfortable talking in front of groups.

The downside is that being overly fearful of public speaking and presentation can make a persons life less than what it can be. It will often hold people back from accomplishing all that they can and being all that they can be. This is why it is important for each person to work on managing their fear. Overcoming communication anxiety opens many doors for a bigger and brighter future.

Part of overcoming this problem is becoming more self-confident, as well as putting yourself in a better light in front of others. After you master your fear of being in the spotlight, it is much easier to stay positive and not feel so edgy.

I remember at the start of college when I felt very anxious about any sort of public presentation. I dreaded it every day and immediately felt sick and clammy if a professor told the class we would be doing so. The worst part is that I hated that feeling, as many people do, and I wanted it to go away so I could feel happy and unafraid.

Soon into my educational career I was required to take a public speaking class, and man was I scared! I never wanted to go to class and felt the knot grow in my stomach when my name was called. The best part about the class, however, is that our professor made each person give so many speeches, we could only improve ourselves.

By the end of the term, I felt happy to get up and talk in front of the class, and I haven't felt that sick feeling since. Overcoming your fear truly makes you more confident, happy, and willing to put yourself out there. This makes it easy for you to improve your life and live to the fullest.
